About CanIAffordRent.com
CanIAffordRent.com is a small collection of free calculators and checklists for U.S. renters trying to figure out one question: can I actually afford this rent?
Most "rent affordability" advice online stops at "30% of your income," which is a fine starting point and a useless answer if you have student loans, a car payment, or no savings to move in with. Our tools fold in the real bills, the upfront costs of moving, and how much should be in the bank before you sign anything.
We don't store your inputs on a server. We don't ask for your email. We don't sell your data. There's nothing to sell because we don't collect it. The calculators run in your browser, and your numbers only leave your device if you choose to share a result link.
Who this is for
Renters, mostly first-time movers, and anyone who has ever stared at a listing and wondered whether the rent is too high. If you're trying to decide whether to move out of a parent or roommate situation, or planning the upfront cash for a first apartment, you're the audience.
Who this isn't for
Landlords looking for tenant-screening tools, mortgage-shoppers, and anyone who needs jurisdiction-specific financial advice. The tools here are general-purpose planning estimates, not financial advice. See our Terms for the full version of that statement.
